-SPIKES ENTER BACK HALF OF ROAD TRIP: The State College Spikes and Jamestown Jammers renew acquaintances in the first game of a three-game series tonight at Russell Diethrick Park. The game will also be the fourth in a six-game road trip for the Spikes, who took two of three from Batavia over the past three nights. The Spikes split a doubleheader with Jamestown in their last visit, and are 4-3 against the Jammers this year. Jamestown leads the all-time series, 21-16.

-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes split a doubleheader with the Batavia Muckdogs last night, winning game one, 5-2, and dropping game two, 4-1. Aaron Baker came up just shy of the cycle for the night, as he put together a triple, single and double in that order in his first three at-bats. However, Baker was then intentionally walked and went 0-for-3 in game two. Pat Irvine increased his RBI total to 37, good for sole possession of third place in the league, and Tyler Cox earned his eighth win of the year in game one, tying him with Brooklyn's Mark Cohoon for the league lead in that category.

-IRWIN GETS BALL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Phillip Irwin makes his fifth start and eighth overall appearance for State College tonight. The University of Mississippi alumnus was the Pirates' 21st-round draft pick earlier this summer, and was named to the National League squad for the 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, where he finished a perfect second inning in just eight pitches.

-JAMESTOWN TO START PETERSEN: Jammers right-hander Curtis Petersen gets the nod for game one of the series at Diethrick Park. Petersen makes his 13th start of the season, and at one point, had a streak of eight straight starts of eight innnings or more.

-HOT STREAKS ABOUND: Several Spikes have been on a good run over the last five games. Evan Chambers, after reaching base nine times in the three-game series at Batavia, is hitting .438 over the last five games, while Pat Irvine is hitting .421 in the last five contests and .429 with 15 RBI in the last ten games. Aaron Baker is exactly at .400 over his last five games.
