Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, the class-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, are holding their seventh annual ALS fundraiser at Finnigan's in Lakewood. The ALS Association is the official charity of the Phillies.
On May 23, after the BlueClaws 11:05 a.m. game, the players and coaches will work at Finnigan's, located only minutes from FirstEnergy Park at Route 9 and 70 in Lakewood. The players will wait tables and the coaches will tend bar during the evening's dinner hours. All gratuities, as well as a percentage of the gross revenue will go to-
ALS. In the first six years this fundraiser has totaled over $50,000.
Numerous BlueClaws game used items, autographed team and individual memorabilia will be up for bid and members of the BlueClaws will be available to sign autographs.
Individuals or groups interested in making reservations for the event can call Tom Gibson at Finnigan's at 732-364-7900.
All money raised from the event will support ALS research and services provided free of charge to ALS patients and families throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties, including in-home care, clinics, equipment, technology, recreational programs and nursing visits.
A progressive, motor-neuron disease, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, usually strikes both men and women between the ages of 30 and 75. Once thought to be rare, ALS occurs nearly as often as multiple sclerosis. Every 90 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with ALS, for which the cause and cure are unknown.
According to a recent survey, the BlueClaws are once again the most affordable baseball ticket in New Jersey. Having led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey Professional Baseball in attendance in each year of existence, the BlueClaws will this year exceed the 3-million fan mark, and become the fastest team in SAL and NJ history to do so. Tickets are available by calling 732-901-7000 or by visiting BlueClaws.com.
