
Legends Set Crawdads Back a Step

Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads were beaten by the Lexington Legends, 9-4, Monday evening at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Starters Jared Hughes (Hickory) and David Qualben (Lexington) each worked a scoreless 1st, but both allowed a run in the 2nd. Lexington's tally came on an RBI single by Eric Taylor that scored Chris Johnson from 2nd. Hickory pulled even with 2-down in the 2nd. With Jared Keel at 2nd and Wanell Macia at 1st, Francis Poni ripped a double down the LF line. Keel scored, but Macia was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
The Legends grabbed the lead back in the 3rd. Jordan Parraz doubled to deep right. He later was brought home on a single by Johnson, to make it 2-1 Lexington.
The gang from the Bluegrass State scored for the 3rd consecutive inning in the 4th. The Legends plated 3 runs in the inning. The scoring spurt was highlighted by a 2-run single stroked to right by Greg Buchanan. Lexington led 5-1 after the 4th.
After a perfect 5th, Jared Hughes was removed. Hughes allowed 3 ER in 5 IP. The Legends tallied 3 runs in the 7th off Dads' RP Mike Felix.
The Crawdads collected a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th on RBI singles by Kent Sakamoto and Jared Keel. Hickory trailed 8-3 after 7. Following a Lexington run in the 9th off Olivo Astacio, Dads' Catcher Francis Poni clocked his 3rd homerun of the year out to left to lead off the 8th. However, both teams failed to score in the 9th, as the Crawdads fell, 9-4.
Hughes (2-2) suffered the loss. Qualben (5-2) earned the win. Corey Bass allowed 3 ER in 3 IP, but still managed his 2nd save.
The Crawdads and Legends wrap up their 4-game series tomorrow at L.P. Frans Stadium. RHP Mike Crotta of Hickory opposes Lexington's Doug Arguello. Crotta's first pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
