Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Zak Farkes broke an 0-for-3 evening with the biggest hit of the night, delivering a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Drive (13-24) a 5-4 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets (27-11). It was the first time Greenville won back-to-back games since April 19th and 20th.

Trailing by three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Drive were able to rally back and tie the game at 4-4. Greenville scored all three of their runs on four consecutive hits, including three extra base hits, to lead off the inning.

Jon Still and Chih-Hsien Chiang hit back-to-back doubles, with Still scoring on Chiang's two-bagger. Mickey Hall, who replaced Jason Place in the fourth inning, followed with an RBI-triple before scoring on a single off the bat of Reid Engel.

Making his first start of the season after being activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, Ryan Phillips pitched two scoreless innings before the GreenJackets plated two in the third. Matt Weston and Mike McBryde each recorded RBI-singles in the inning.

The Drive were able to cut the lead in half in the fourth when Engel delivered a double to knock in Hall. With the hit Engel extended his hitting streak to a team-high nine games.

In the seventh and eighth innings, Augusta was able to pull away temporarily with a run in each frame. In the seventh Henry Gutierrez singled home Weston. An inning later, James Simmons led off with a solo homer off of Jorge Rodriguez.

Greenville persevered however, to tie the game. It looked as if Augusta would regain the lead in the top of the ninth though, having runners on first and third with no outs. But reliever T.J. Large (1-2) was able to get out of the jam unscathed.

The Drive and GreenJackets conclude their four-game series Tuesday afternoon with the first Businessperson Special of the season, as first pitch is set for 12:05 PM. Haircuts from Hob-Knob Hair Designs and shoe shines will be available on the concourse, as well as wireless internet capability throughout West End Field.

Greenville will look to take the four-game series with a win by sending right-hander Chris Jones to the mound. Augusta will counter with lefty Clayton Tanner. Tickets for all Drive home games can be purchased by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com or by calling (864) 240-4500.
