Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - For those who just can't wait for Opening Night next Saturday October 21st, some relief will come this weekend in the form of a pair of home preseason contests set to take place this weekend. The Gorillas will first welcome one of their arch rivals tomorrow evening when the Lubbock Cotton Kings invade the Amarillo Civic Center. This will be the first chance for Gorilla fans to witness their 2006-07 team in action. It will also be the audition for a number of new Gorillas including player/assistant coach Chris Lipsett and forwards such as David Silverstone and Bill Vandermeer and new defensive regulars like John Glavota and Josh Mizerek. The puck hits the ice shortly after 7 P.M. tomorrow night in the first on-ice competition for both clubs this preseason. The game will also be broadcast on the new flagship station for Amarillo Gorillas hockey, 1010 AM The Canyon beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 P.M.
The Gorillas will then get a sneak peak at their opening night opponent when the New Mexico Scorpions enter the Jungle. The Scorpions are welcomed back to Central Hockey League action this season after a one-year hiatus. The Gorillas have battled New Mexico more than any other team in the CHL as the Apes and Scorpions have tangled 90 times. The Gorillas hold a 36-44-10 record all-time versus New Mexico. The opening face-off comes shortly after 7 P.M. Saturday night.
Tickets are on sale right now for both preseason games by calling the Gorillas front office at 242-7825. Tickets are just $5 for either game!
