Exhibition opponent changes

October 12, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Corpus Christi Rayz announced Thursday that the Austin Ice Bats have replaced the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees as the opponent for this Sunday's home exhibition game. Originally slated to host the Killer Bees, the Rayz rescheduled their opponent after it became apparent that the Bees would not be able to field a full roster for the game because of unexpected player immigration delays. The opening face-off will remain at 2:00pm at the American Bank Center as part of the Caller-Times Best of the Best Shootout. Tickets to the game are free of charge with general admission seating. For more information, please call (361) 814-PUCK.

Sunday's game will now be a rematch of Saturday evening's contest in Austin when the Rayz play the Ice Bats. The Sunday matinee contest will be the lone, home game of the Rayz exhibition schedule. Along with the change in opponent comes a very interesting sub-plot. Japanese born players on different teams could square off against each other for the first time in CHL history when the two teams meet this weekend. Forward Kazuma Takahashi, from Hachinohe City, Japan is currently in training camp with the Rayz, while Takaioshi Kawamoto and Hironori Kobayashi are in Austin's camp. In addition to the two pre-season games, the Rayz will play the division rival Ice Bats ten times over the course of the season. The Rayz encourage fans and those attending the Caller-Times 'Best of the Best' Showcase to attend the complimentary Rayz game.

The Corpus Christi Rayz are currently in preparation for the 2006-2007 season. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center is only 9 days away. Corpus Christi will begin their season at home on October 21st vs. the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm. Season ticket packages and corporate sponsorship opportunities are currently available through the Rayz office. Individual tickets can be purchased at all Ticketmaster Outlets and the American Bank Center Box Office. For more information please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK or log on to www.ccrayz.com.
