AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League announced today that goaltender Steve Briere is leaving the team and is returning to Europe to be with his family. Tonight will be Briere's last game in a Gorillas' uniform.

Briere, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, had a 2-7-1 record and a 3.37 Goals Against Average in 11 games this season. The young goaltender says his decision to return to Scotland was for personal reasons.

"I have enjoyed my time here in Amarillo, everything is run very professionally, and that is what I liked the most," said Briere. "However, the prospect of being away from my fiancée and child for another six months was too much for me and I decided to return to Scotland.

"The owners and the coaching staff have been very professional and have treated me wonderfully." Briere had just returned to North America after spending the past two seasons in Scotland where he was a member of the Fife Flyers of the British National League. His success between the pipes propelled the team to a championship and also a Most Valuable Goaltender award for himself.

"It is unfortunate that things did not work out for Steve, but we wish him the best of luck with his future plans," said Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras.
