Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week Announced

Wichita center Joe Blaznek and Austin netminder Peter Brady have been named the Week 13 recipients of the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week awards. Blaznek exploded for 11 points in a split series against New Mexico, while Brady allowed just a single goal against as Austin swept a home-and-home series with Rio Grande Valley.
Blaznek tied two CHL season highs on Friday, January 14th, scoring four goals and six points in the Thunder's 9-6 win in New Mexico. Blaznek scored twice in the first period (once with the man advantage), once in the second period, then into an empty net to seal the victory while also assisting on power play goals by Paul Esdale and Travis Clayton. He continued his torrid play the next following evening with two more goals (one shorthanded) and three assists in an 8-6 loss to the Scorpions. Blaznek's outstanding weekend has vaulted him into a tie for 11th place in the CHL scoring race with 41 points.
Austin's Brady turned in a pair of outstanding performances over the weekend as Austin stopped Rio Grande Valley twice to move within a single point of the Southeast Division lead. Saturday evening he made 21 saves in a 5-0 home win to earn his first professional shutout, then made 24 stops the following day in Austin's 3-1 road win, the clubs first victory in eight career games at the Dodge Arena. Prior to beginning his pro career in the 02/03 season, Brady played at both the University of Alaska-Anchorage and the University of British Columbia.
