
Gonzalez Blasts Trenton to 11-7 Win Over Reading on Sunday Night

(Reading, PA)- Trenton Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez hit two home runs, for the second time in three games, to lead the Thunder past Reading 11-7 on Sunday night from First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. Trenton has hit eight home runs so far in the series, and scored 29 runs in three games.
Trenton (76-50) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning off of Reading Starting pitcher Andrew Carpenter. Gonzalez led off the frame with a solo home run to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Second baseman Kevin Russo followed with a double, and scored on an RBI single by Catcher Francisco Cervelli. Reading cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning. Catcher John Suomi had a solo home run off of Trenton Starting pitcher Carl Pavano. Trenton's lead expanded to 4-1 in the fifth inning. First baseman Cody Ehlers singled to start the frame. Gonzalez followed with a two-run home run, his 13th home run of the season. The Thunder increased the lead to 6-1 in the sixth inning. Third baseman Chris Malec started the sixth inning with a double. Left fielder Colin Curtis followed with a two-run home run off of Carpenter. Trenton added four runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Russo scored during the frame on a wild pitch to make it 7-1. Later in the inning, Malec brought home a run with an RBI walk, and Curtis delivered a two-run double. Curtis finished the game 2 x 5 with four RBI.
Trenton Starting pitcher Carl Pavano (1-1) went six innings in his third rehabilitation start for the Thunder. He threw 88 pitches in his longest outing of the three starts. Pavano scattered six hits and struck out six. He only walked one. Thunder relievers Wilkins Arias and Kevin Whelan combined to toss the final three innings for Trenton. Carpenter (5-8) went six plus innings and allowed a season-high 11 hits and eight runs to take the loss. Russo finished the game 4 x 4 with two runs, and a double. Reading Center fielder Greg Golson hit two home runs for the Phillies, a two-run shot in the seventh, and a three-run home run in the eighth. Trenton is now 44-20 on the road this season, and has won 14 of its last 18 games on the road.
Trenton and Reading finish up a four-game series on Monday night from First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Trenton Starting pitcher is TBA. RHP Tyson Brummett (2-6, 6.57) will start for Reading.
