ENTERING TODAY'S ACTION...
Today, the SeaWolves go for a series sweep as they take the field in the final game of a three-game set against the Connecticut Defenders (San Francisco Giants). Since the all-star break, the âWolves are 21-10 and the team is in fourth place in the Southern Division, 15 games behind first Bowie. Erie is also 12-3 in the month of August. Erie is in a stretch of 12 straight games against Northern Division opponents. The SeaWolves and Defenders meet six times in a span of 10 days.The âWolves are 8-2 in their last 10 games and they continue to be the hottest team in the EL. The âWolves are going for their sixth series sweep of the season...First baseman Ryan Roberson is out of Erie's lineup for the fifth straight game with back spasms. He is listed as day-to-day....RHP Matt Rusch has been transferred to Triple-A Toledo. No counter move has been made...The Defenders come into tonight's game in fourth place in the North, 12.5 games behind first place Trenton and five games behind wild card leading Portland...Righty Luis Marte takes the mound for the SeaWolves making his eighth start of the season. He has picked up wins in three straight starts and has worked six innings in each of his last two. In his last outing on August 12 against New Britain, Marte went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts...RHP Joey Martinez takes the mound for the Defenders making his 24th start. Martinez comes into today's game tied for second in the EL with a 2.51 ERA. He picked up a win in his last start at Akron going seven shutout innings, allowing three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He has walked just one over his last 24 IP.
