Harrisburg Senators News Release
Portland, ME - For the third straight game, the Harrisburg Senators lost a one-run game to the Portland Sea Dogs, Sunday at Hadlock Field. Portland picked up its second walk-off victory of the series, a 3-2 triumph over the Senators in the bottom of the 9th to complete the three-game sweep.
The Sea Dogs jumped in front in the bottom of the 2nd. Argenis Diaz reached on an error to lead off the inning. Jorge Jimenez followed with a single to put runners at the corners. After a strikeout, Juan Apodaca lifted a sacrifice fly to right field and Diaz scored on a bang-bang play at the plate.
Harrisburg came right back in the top of the 3rd. Garrett Guzman lined a one-out double down the right-field line and Ian Desmond followed with a single to put runners at first and third. Jemel Spearman kept the rally going with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. A groundout moved the runners up and Seth Bynum hit an infield single to drive in a run and give the Senators a 2-1 lead.
Portland tied it in the 4th when Iggy Suarez hit an RBI single to make it 2-2.
It stayed that way into the 9th. Portland loaded the bases with nobody out as Diaz doubled, Jimenez doubled and Suarez was intentionally walked. Zach Daeges hit a pinch-hit, walk-off single to plate Diaz and win it for the Sea Dogs.
The loss spoiled a tremendous start by Harrisburg LHP Justin Jones, who whiffed ten Sea Dogs in six innings of work. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks in a no-decision.
RHP Adam Carr (3-3) allowed the winning run without recording an out in the bottom of the 9th. Portland RHP Daniel Bard picked up his second win of the series to move to 4-1.
The Senators dropped to 68-61. Portland improved to 68-57.
The Senators have a day off on Monday before traveling to Trenton to take on the Thunder (Double-A New York Yankees) in a three-game series beginning Tuesday. RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-5, 3.97 ERA) goes for his first Double-A win against Trenton RHP Eric Hacker (6-3, 2.73 ERA) in a 7:05 PM start on Tuesday.
