Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Sioux Falls Stadium continues to be a place that haunts the Winnipeg Goldeyes this season.

The Goldeyes fell behind 6-0 after four innings and dropped an 8-4 decision to the Sioux Falls Pheasants Sunday night in South Dakota before a crowd of 1,782.

It's Winnipeg's sixth loss in nine games in Sioux Falls this season.

The Pheasants scored singles in each of the first two innings before tacking three runs in the board in the third inning, thanks largely to a two-run single by Joe Anthonsen.

After Sioux Falls made it 6-0 in the fourth inning, the Goldeyes finally got in the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Kody Kaiser singled in Louis Ott. A two-run double by Ott in the sixth cut the lead to 6-3 and then Jon Weber scored a passed ball in the seventh inning to bring Winnipeg to within two runs of the lead.

But, Sioux Falls scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to snuff out any comeback hopes Winnipeg had.

Ben Moore pitched five innings for his 13th win of the season, while Luis Villarreal went six and a third inning, striking out seven in a losing cause.

The two teams meet again Monday night for the third game of this four-game set. Game time is 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.

Playoff tickets are on sale now by visiting any Ticketmaster location, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE. The Goldeyes will host the first two games of their best-of-five American Association Division Series on Thursday and Friday at Shaw Park.

The Goldeyes will meet either the Gary SouthShore RailCats or St. Paul Saints in the first round. The two teams are tied for the wild card spot and play each other in the final two games of the regular season.
