Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of left-handed pitcher Edgar Osuna to a contract.

Osuna, 25, was with the Goldeyes during training camp, but was released after suffering a shoulder injury. He has played six professional seasons since signing with the Atlanta Braves as an 18-year-old, but missed the entire 2012 season due to a shoulder injury. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals from the Braves in the 2009 MLB Rule 5 draft and subsequently went 6-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 17 starts at Double-A Northwest Arkansas of the Texas League. He also made five starts and appeared in nine games for Triple-A Omaha of the Pacific Coast League.

Joining former Goldeyes Chris Roberson and Jon Weber with Mexicali this past winter, Osuna went 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 starts.

In 2011 with Northwest Arkansas, the product of Mazatlan, Mexico went 6-4 with a 7.89 ERA in 14 games, including 11 starts.

Through 115 appearances, including 82 starts, in his career, Osuna, who is the first Mexican-born player to be signed by the Goldeyes in team history, averages 7.8 strikeouts for every nine innings and just two walks for every nine innings.

The Goldeyes now have 21 players on the active roster, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.

Winnipeg begins at three-game series on the road against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles tonight at 6 p.m. central time and Osuna is expected to get the start.
