Goldeyes Qualify for Playoffs
August 19, 2009 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
They don't yet know who they will play or where they will play them, but one thing the Goldeyes do know is they will be playing in September.
By virtue of Schaumburg's 9-1 loss to Kansas City last night, the Goldeyes were assured of a spot in the post-season for the 14th time in 16 seasons. With a dozen games left in the regular season, where they finish will determine where they play and who they play when the playoffs get underway on Wednesday, September 2.
Entering today's noon start against Fargo-Moorhead, the Goldeyes sit third, a half-game behind the RedHawks and a game-and-a-half behind the league leaders from Gary. Should they finish first or second, they would begin on the road, returning home to host the third game of the opening round on Friday, September 4. Games four and five, if necessary, would follow on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6.
Should they finish third or fourth, the Goldeyes would host the first two games on Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3. If successful in the first round, Winnipeg would move on to the Northern League Championship Series beginning Tuesday, September 8 in a yet-to-be determined location.
Playoff tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday morning at 10:00 at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
