GARY, Ind. - For the fifth year in a row, the Gary SouthShore RailCats will be a part of the Northern League playoffs and fans can reserve their tickets and get a chance at a great giveaway when the RailCats begin their run to a third league title.
Tickets are available now for the first home playoff contest at the U. S. Steel Yard box office as the first 1,000 fans through the gates that evening will receive a free RailCats Northern League Champions hat, courtesy of Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard, P.C.
The RailCats have already assured themselves a top-three seeding in this year's playoff and are currently in first place in the league. If the RailCats finish as the third seed, they will host game one against the second-seeded club on Wednesday, September 2. If the RailCats finish as the regular season champion or as the runner-up, they will take to the road for the first two games, holding court at U. S. Steel Yard for the first time on Friday, September 4. First pitch (for either night) will be slated for 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. and the Hat Giveaway will be held either September 2 or 4.
The RailCats have participated in the Northern League playoffs in each of the last four seasons, reaching the championship series in all four trips. The RailCats won the Northern League title in 2005 and 2007. The winners of the first two rounds will meet in this year's championship series, beginning on Tuesday, September 8, at the site of the lower-seeded club.
The RailCats have 11 games remaining in the 2009 schedule, including seven straight at home to close out the regular season. Tickets are available for any of the seven home games and for the first playoff game at the U. S. Steel Yard box office, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday on non-gamedays. On gamedays, the box office is open from 10 a.m. to the end of that night's contest. Fans can also get their tickets by calling 219.882.2255 or by visiting www.railcatsbaseball.com.
