Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (38-35) won a 17-7 slugfest over the Kansas City T-Bones (42-29) in a wild Sunday afternoon at Canwest Park.

Winnipeg scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to get things going, tallied another in the second and struck for six more in the fifth inning to take a 13-1 lead.

However, Kansas City fought back with five runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut Winnipeg's lead in half. But, Winnipeg tacked on four more runs over the last four innings.

The Goldeyes smacked three home runs and racked up 19 hits in the contest. Vince Harrison, Aharon Eggleston and Justin Justice all went yard for the Fish.

T-Bones centre fielder Keanon Simon was ejected from the game in the top of the third inning for offering a little too much encouragement to home plate umpire Matt Kainz, who was feeling the effects of getting hit by a foul ball.

More fireworks erupted in the bottom of the seventh inning. Goldeyes left fielder Dee Brown took exception to being hit by a Hunter Mense pitch, which cause both dugouts to empty. Coolier heads prevailed and Mense was ejected from the game.

Stephen Flake went five innings to get the win. He allowed four runs and struck out five.

Ryan Knippschild was on the hook for 11 of the Goldeyes runs in the game and takes the loss for Kansas City.

Winnipeg continues this 10-game home stand tomorrow night when the Gary SouthShore RailCats come to Canwest Park for the first four games this week.
