Flyers Jump All Over \'Hammers 12-2

JOLIET, IL - Brett Harker tossed seven innings of one run ball and the Schaumburg Flyers (28-43) pounded out 12 runs on 18 hits in a 12-2 victory Saturday night over the Joliet JackHammers (36-34) at Silver Cross Field. Joliet will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 p.m.

The Flyers put the game away with six runs in the eighth inning, turning a 6-1 game into 12-1. Schaumburg sent 11 hitters to the plate with nine consecutive batters reaching base. Brian Gartley retired the first two hitters before the nine straight reached base. Kit Pellow knocked home two with a single with Mario Delgado, Joey Gomes and Ron Bourquin all collecting runs batted in as well.

Schaumburg took an early lead against Kyle Dahman (2-2), making his first start of the season. The Flyers plated three in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Travis Brown tripled down the right field line to plate two and Pellow followed with a run scoring single and the 4-0 advantage.

The JackHammers got on the board in the fifth against Harker (6-7). Josh Flores launched a solo shot off the scoreboard in left center with one out to cut the lead to 5-1.

Jonathan Wyatt knocked in the final run for Joliet in the ninth, a double off Ben Reeser for the 12-2 final.

Harker, who improved to 2-0 against the JackHammers, surrendered one run on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in the outing.

Dahman, making the spot start for the injured Ross Stout, lasted four frames. The right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits with one strikeout.

The bullpen allowed seven runs over the final five innings with Gartley and William Jackel each giving up three runs.

Wyatt led the team with three hits and one run batted in while Chris Colton went 2-3 with a walk and stolen base.

The JackHammers and Flyers will wrap up a three game series tomorrow afternoon at Silver Cross Field. Todd Privett (6-4) will go up against Ryan Gehring (3-6) on the mound. Game time is slated for 2:10 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. pre-game show on the JackHammers Radio Network.
