Lake County Fielders News Release

ZION, IL-The Lake County Fielders (30-42) struggled through another tough loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (37-36), dropping the final game of the four game series 11-1 on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day.

The game started well enough for the Fielders and starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa (2-6). He pitched through two scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the second.

But the RailCats scored two in the third and continued to pound the ball, scoring at least one run in every inning the rest of the game, except the ninth. Mike Massaro and Christian Guerrero delivered home runs for Gary.

The Fielders only run came in the sixth inning, when they took advantage of three Gary miscues. Guillermo Martinez reached second on an error by 3B Louis Ott, then advanced to third on a wild pitch.

With two outs, Amos Ramon reached on a throwing error by SS Tanner Townsend and Martinez scored on the play, but that was all they would get off Gary starter Brad Halsey.

Halsey (5-6) pitched a complete game allowing only one unearned run on four hits. He struck out twelve and walked only one.

The Fielders concluded the extended two-week homestand with a 7-9 record. They now play seven games on the road, before returning to Zion on Monday August 16th with a doubleheader against the Joliet JackHammers.

Lake County plays again Monday night at the Schaumburg Flyers at 7:00 pm. Listen live on WKRS AM 1220.
