Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Aharon Eggleston, Price Kendall and Brett Wallace loaded the gun in the ninth inning and Wes Long pulled the trigger.

Long hit a grand slam home run off Rockford RiverHawks reliever Emary Fredrick, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (31-32) pounded the RiverHawks (27-34) 8-3 Thursday night and take the three-game series 2-1.

The Goldeyes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and looked to be cruising until starter Chris Salamida got into some trouble. In the bottom half of the third, Salamida served up a three-run home run to Rockford's Kevin House. That cut the Goldeyes lead to one.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the third inning.

Salamida began to lose momentum as his pitch count rose, but he finished the night throwing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out four and allowing two free passes before being relieved by fellow lefty Zach Baldwin.

Baldwin didn't allow a hit in his two-inning appearance, while closer Bobby Korecky shutout Rockford in the eighth and ninth innings to earn his seventh save of the summer.

The victory marks the second-straight series victory for the Fish and moves them to one-game under .500 heading into a weekend series against the Lake County Fielders. The series begins with a doubleheader Friday night in Zion, Ill.

The broadcast from Lake County can be heard live on 1290 CFRW starting at 6 p.m.
