Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced several moves today.

The Goldeyes have activated outfield/catcher Kyle Day, who hasn't played since May 20 due to a pulled hamstring, from the disabled list and signed left-handed rookie pitcher Rich Hawkins.

Hawkins, 22, just completed his senior season with the NAIA Oklahoma City University Stars and posted eye-popping numbers. In 16 starts, he had a miniscule 1.99 ERA and 12-2 record. The product of Edmond, Okla. also tossed seven complete games, including two complete-game shutouts, and was an honourable mention for the NAIA's All-American team.

To make room on the roster for Day and Hawkins, the Goldeyes have placed outfielder Dan Barbero on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting his release and released pitcher Chris Kaminski.

The Goldeyes remain with 22 players on their active roster, including 12 pitchers and 10 position players.

Hawkins will get his first professional start tonight when the Goldeyes conclude a four-game series on the road against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Fans looking to purchase season tickets, nine-game mini packs and individual game tickets for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273), visit the Shaw Park box office or click on Ticketmaster.ca.
