Goldeyes Lose 7-3 To The RailCats

Early deficits continue to haunt the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Goldeyes fell behind 4-0 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats before the game was four innings old and couldn't rally, losing 7-3 to the RailCats Tuesday night at Canwest Park.
Gary scored twice in the first and added singles in the third and fourth innings to take the 4-0 lead.
Winnipeg battled back with three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the fourth inning to reduce the deficit to just a single run. Luis Alen scored on a Vince Harrison ground out, Justin Justice touched home plate on an Aharon Eggleston grounder and Dee Brown scored on a wild pitch.
The dagger was delivered by Gary in the seventh inning when Louis Ott hit a two-run home run. It's Ott's second home run in as many games in this series. The RailCats added another run in the ninth.
Goldeyes second baseman Kevin West was ejected from the game in the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes.
Brett Wallace and Juan Diaz each had a pair of hits to lead the Goldeyes at the plate.
Zeb Engle got the win for Gary, while Goldeyes starter Antony Bello takes the loss for Winnipeg. Andy Shipman earns his second save in as many nights for the RailCats.
The start of the game was delayed 56 minutes because of rain.
Gary leads the four-game series 2-0 and takes sole possession of third place in the Northern League with the win.
Despite the loss, Winnipeg remains tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern League with the Joliet JackHammers, who lost both games of a doubleheader against the Rockford RiverHawks. But, the RiverHawks move to within a game of Winnipeg and Joliet with the two wins.
