Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
The Winnipeg Goldeyes continue to be gracious hosts. Too gracious of hosts.
Winnipeg dropped a 8-1 decision to the Gary SouthShore RailCats Wednesday night at Canwest Park.
It's Winnipeg's third-straight loss to Gary in this series and fourth straight against the RailCats overall.
The RailCats went up 2-0 in the second inning on a two-run double by Louis Ott. Gary extended the lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the fifth, added a single in the sixth and Jay Pecci hit his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning to make it 6-0.
Winnipeg finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Vince Harrison scored on an Aharon Eggleston single.
Gary added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Harrison led Winnipeg at the plate with a three-for-four night and a run scored.
Andy Weeks went six scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season for Gary. Jason Mackintosh takes the loss for Winnipeg, but only three of the six runs he allowed were earned.
The Goldeyes committed a season-high five errors in the game, which led to three Gary runs.
The loss, combined with the Rockford RiverHawks beating the Joliet JackHammers, means Winnipeg, Rockford and Joliet are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Norhern League.
The Goldeyes move back to .500 with the loss with a record of 38-38 and are now just 18-21 at home this season.
Winnipeg will meet Gary for the final time this season Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Canwest Park. Great seats are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location or by calling 780-3333.
