
Streaking RiverHawks win in front of sellout crowd

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Kyle Ruwe scattered three hits over eight innings to pitch the Rockford RiverHawks to a 6-1 win over the Joliet Jackhammers on Wednesday at Road Ranger Stadium.
The RiverHawks scored three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth, in front of a season-high 6,007, their 11th sellout of the year. Rockford, on a seven-game winning streak, is back to .500, at 37-37, for the first time since May.
The RiverHawks pulled into a three-way tie for the final Northern League playoff spot. Gary was an 8-1 winner at Winnipeg. Rockford, Gary and Winnipeg are in a virtual tie for fourth place.
Ruwe (5-6) struck out only one, but got 13 groundouts and walked just two. Ruwe did not allow a Jackhammer beyond first base until Roberto Mena ruined the shutout with a home run in the eighth inning. John Muller pitched a perfect ninth inning in his first appearance since he re-signed with the RiverHawks on Tuesday.
The RiverHawks broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. John Wagle doubled home two and scored on Jason James' single. In the sixth, Evan McArthur hit a ground-rule RBI double and Jake Eigsti doubled in two.
The series finale is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. Miller Lite, 104.9 - the X and 2nd Cousin's sponsor Dollar Beer Night. The Navy Leap Frogs parachute team will perform prior to the first pitch.
