Goldeyes Grind out Extra-Inning Win

GARY, IN - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (40-29) beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-4 in 11 innings at US Steel Yard on Friday night.
Tied at 4-4 in the top of the 11th inning, Adam Heisler drew a leadoff walk against former Major League right-hander Jorge de Leon (0-1). Reggie Abercrombie followed with a line drive single to centre. After Josh Romanski laid down a sacrifice bunt, the RailCats elected to intentionally walk David Rohm to load the bases with one out. Behind in the count 0-2, Jacob Rogers lined a three-run double that bounced by RailCats' left fielder Anthony Cheky.
Cameron McVey relieved Mikey O'Brien for the bottom of the 11th and worked a perfect inning to earn his second save of the year. The Goldeyes stretched their season-high winning streak to six games, and have won 19 of their last 26.
In his first relief appearance of the season, O'Brien (7-4) pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th, and earned the 50th win of his nine-year professional career.
The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Chase Harris hit a leadoff double to left and scored on John Holland's RBI single down the right field line.
RailCats' starter Karl Triana maintained the 1-0 lead through six innings, allowing no runs on four hits. Triana walked three and struck out 14 in a no-decision. The RailCats' pitching staff combined for 22 strikeouts, tying an American Association single-game record.
Goldeyes' starter Duke von Schamann kept Winnipeg within one run over seven innings of work. von Schamann allowed one earned run on four hits and retired the final 12 batters to face him. von Schamann walked none and struck out three in the no-decision.
Winnipeg rallied to take its first lead of the night with a four-run top of the eighth. Rohm led off with a sharp single to centre and moved to second on a wild pitch. Rogers walked to put runners on second and third. RailCats' reliever Travis McGee then made an errant throw on Casio Grider's sacrifice attempt that allowed Rohm to score the tying run. Two batters later, Carlton Tanabe ripped a double down the left field line that scored Rogres and Grider to give Winnipeg a 3-1 lead. Heisler capped off the rally with a two-out, RBI triple to right-centre.
In the bottom of the eighth, Andy DeJesus connected on a three-run home run to left that tied the game. It was DeJesus' first professional home run.
Brandon Shimo worked one and one-third scoreless innings of relief. Rogers drew four walks in addition to the game-winning hit. Heisler finished with three hits.
Game three of the four-game series is Saturday evening at 7:10 p.m. Kevin McGovern (4-2, 4.25) starts for Winnipeg. The RailCats go with right-hander Taylor Black (4-4, 5.67).
