WINNIPEG, Mb. - Consecutive walks to begin the bottom of the seventh came back to bite the Kansas City T-Bones (13-7) this afternoon as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (12-9) plated both runners on a single by Wes Long en route to a 2-1 victory at Canwest Park.
After rain delayed the start by approximately an hour, both starters held their opposition scoreless through the first three innings. Winnipeg hurler Mark Holliman allowed just one baserunner to reach second in that span before Ray Sadler connected for a solo home run to begin the fourth, his first of the season.
Holliman lasted six innings for the Goldeyes, surrendering just the one run on two hits while walking five and striking out seven. He did not factor into the decision.
With a 1-0 lead, Cody McAllister (1-2) continued to stifle Winnipeg hitters through six innings. The Goldeyes pushed just two runners past first base against the right-hander before McAllister threw eight consecutive balls to begin the bottom of the seventh. After a sacrifice bunt by Luis Alen pushed both runners into scoring position, Drew Graham entered and immediately surrendered a single to Long for a 2-1 Goldeyes lead. Graham retired the next two batters to end the frame.
McAllister was charged with two runs on three hits in six and one-thirds innings in the loss. He walked five while striking out five in the contest.
Ian Thomas (4-0) threw one and one-thirds scoreless innings of relief in the victory. Philip Roy pitched the final one and two-thirds innings to earn his fourth save of the year. Justin James threw a perfect eighth for Kansas City to hold the deficit at one.
The T-Bones now head to Fargo for a three-game weekend series with the RedHawks. Brett Davis (1-1, 4.42) will take the mound tomorrow night opposite Jeremy Hauer (0-0, 4.91). First pitch is set for 7:02. Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
