Fielders Fall to JackHammers, 2-0

Lake County Fielders News Release


The Lake County Fielders (7-13) missed a chance to win their first series of the season as the Joliet Jackhammers (11-9) defeated the Fielders 2-0 in Joliet.

Lake County starter Zach Ward (1-3) threw his best start of the year pitching seven strong innings; giving up only three hits, striking out five and giving up only one earned run on an RBI groundout to Jonathon Wyatt. Joliet scored their only other run off Fielders reliever Jake Ruckele - a solo home run in the 8th inning by Joliet DH Justin Justice (1).

Joliet starter Rory Shortell improved his record to 1-3; throwing five and two-thirds innings yielding five hits and striking out seven batters. Drew Shetrone got his fifth save of the year, his fourth against Lake County.

Offensively, the Fielders shortstop Kyle Higgins had two hits.

Lake County travels home to play their first home game of the year Friday night at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI versus the Gary SouthShore RailCats at 7PM. Fielders will send RHP John Brownell (1-2, 8.15) against RHP Willie Glen.
