Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Schaumburg Flyers 5-3 on Thursday evening at Newman Outdoor field to complete a sweep of the two teams' four-game set. Fargo-Moorhead's Casey Hoorelbeke (3-0) came on in relief of starter Scott Fogleson to make his Northern League-leading eleventh appearance of the season and pick up the win.
Fogelson, entering the game with a 0.95 ERA, gave up two early runs to the Flyers in the second. Schaumberg's Chris Schultz walked to start the inning and was followed by a single from second baseman Joe Pauley. Both advanced on a wild pitch from Fogelson and were brought home on a single from Brandon Newton.
Schaumberg (5-15) got another strong start from its pitching staff but was unable to capitalize. Dustin Glant took the ball for the Flyers tonight and only allowed two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work. Unfortunately for Glant, he threw 118 pitches in those five innings and had to give way to Ryan Gehring in the sixth inning.
The RedHawks (12-5) were able to get to Gehring (0-1) in the sixth. Catcher Kole Zimmerman led off with a walk and was brought home on Cory Patton's double down the left field line. Gehring got a pair of RedHawk hitters to fly out, but then gave up a two-out double in the left centerfield gap to Fargo-Moorhead leadoff man Mike Coles. Patton scored on the play, giving the RedHawks a 5-3 lead that would hold up.
Matt Mossey pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the save.
The RedHawks will continue their home stand tomorrow night, welcoming the Kansas City T-Bones to Newman Outdoor Field. Brett Davis (1-1) will get the nod for Kansas City while Jeremy Hauer (0-0) will make his second start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02pm.
