
Goldeyes Clipped by Railroaders on Opening Night

CLEBURNE, TX - The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 3-2 to the Cleburne Railroaders at The Depot at Cleburne Station on Friday night.
Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Railroaders' catcher Michael Pair drew a one-out walk. Axel Johnson followed with a double down the right field line. Pair was waved to the plate, and was ruled safe with the winning run on a close play despite a strong relay throw from Jordan Ebert.
The game was scoreless over the first six innings. Goldeyes' starter Charle Rosario pitched six shutout innings. Rosario pitched around a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth, and struck out the side in his final inning of work. Rosario scattered four hits, walked one, and struck out nine.
In the top of the seventh, Josh Mazzola reached on a one-out, infield single. Two batters later, Andrew Sohn launched a double off the wall in left that scored Mazzola with the game's first run.
The Railroaders rallied for two runs in the bottom half to take the lead. Patrick Palmeiro led off with an infield single. Trevor Sealey pinch-ran for Palmeiro and went to third when Pair reached on a two-base error charged to Reggie Abercrombie in centre field. Johnson tied the game with a groundball to shortstop, while Alex Polston's double to left drove in Pair with the go-ahead run.
Reynaldo Rodriguez led off the top of the eight with a home run to left-centre that tied the game at 2-2.
Cortland Cox (1-0) earned the win in relief for Cleburne with a scoreless top of the ninth.
Alex Boshers took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing one earned run in one and one-third relief innings.
Patrick Mincey started for Cleburne and took a no-decision, allowing one earned run on eight hits over seven innings. Mincey walked one and struck out five.
Abercrombie finished the game with three hits.
The Goldeyes and Railroaders play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:06 p.m. Kevin McGovern (0-0, 0.00) takes on right-hander Patrick Young (0-0, 0.00).
