Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Axel Johnson doubled home Michael Pair from first base, and the Railroaders walked off the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 3-2, on Friday night.
Pair reached on a one-out walk and then scored after Johnson hit a line drive into the right-field corner.
Rafael Palmeiro went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his Railroaders debut, while Patrick Mincey tossed seven innings and gave up just one run in the first Opening Night start of his career.
The Railroaders (1-0) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Reggie Abercrombie dropped a fly ball that put two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Pinch-runner Trevor Sealey scored on Axel Johnson's RBI groundout and Pair, who reached on the two-base error, scored on Alex Polston's RBI double.
Reynaldo Rodriguez tied the game with a leadoff homer off of Tyler Wilson in the eighth, and the Goldeyes (0-1), who left nine runners on and seven in scoring position, stranded the go-ahead runner in both the 8th and 9th innings.
Cortland Cox earned the win with a scoreless 9th, and all three of Cleburne's wins against Winnipeg have been walk-offs.
The series continues on Saturday night. RHP Patrick Young will pitch for Cleburne while LHP Kevin McGovern will throw for the Goldeyes. First pitch is set for 7:06 p.m. and tickets are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com.
