Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - Casey Golden put together two huge at bats his final two trips to the plate on Sunday. The Asheville Tourists outfielder hit a game-tying two-run Home Run in the seventh inning and a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth to help propel the Tourists to a 6-5 win over the West Virginia Power.
Asheville fell behind 5-0 after a three-run first inning by the home team and single runs in the third and fifth innings. Limited to only one hit through the first five frames, Asheville went to work against the West Virginia bullpen.
The Tourists scored three runs on four hits in the top of the sixth. Asheville used an error to plate their first run and Matt McLaughlin ripped a two-run single to right-center to bring the Tourists within two at 5-3.
Golden's two-run Home Run in the seventh came with a runner at second and two outs. The score remained tied 5-5 until Bret Boswell hit a two-out double in the top of the ninth. Golden's RBI single was hit back up the middle into centerfield and Boswell raced home to give Asheville their first lead of the game.
Nate Harris was called upon to pitch the bottom of the ninth and the San Antonio, Texas native struck out two en route to his first save of the season. Robert Tyler earned the win by tossing shutout innings in the seventh and eighth.
Taylor Snyder finished 3-for-4 while Boswell and Golden each added two hits. Asheville returns to McCormick Field on Monday to open a four-game set against the Lexington Legends. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
