Akron, OH- Ryan Castellani won his first game since May 26, as the Hartford Yard Goats topped the first place Akron Rubber Ducks, 6-3, Wednesday night, before 3,121 at Canal Park. The victory evened the three-game series, setting up the rubber match Thursday night. Hartford has won six of its last nine games.

Castellani pitched five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. The right hand pitcher struck out four and walked one, before turning it over to the bullpen. The winning pitcher was helped by an early Yard Goats lead.

Hartford (34-36) scored two runs in the first with two outs. Starter Dominic DeMasi retired the first two batters, before walking the next two hitters and surrendering run-scoring singles to Brian Mundell and Dom Nunez. The Goats added three runs in the second with two outs on a wild pitch, an RBI-single by Mylz Jones and a run-scoring double from Sam Hilliard.

Akron (40-31) rallied for three in the fifth against Castellani, before the Yard Goats pitcher got the tying run at the plate to ground out. The Goats bullpen then took over, with lefty Mitch Horacek hurling two scoreless innings, Logan Cozart a perfect eighth and Matt Pierpont a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 19th save.

Nunez led Hartford's 10-hit attack with three singles. It marked the sixth straight game the Yard Goats have garnered 10 or more hits.
