Hartford Yard Goats News Release

HARTFORD- Trenton scored two unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Hartford Yard Goats, 2-1, Friday night, before 6,787 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. It was the 34th sellout crowd of the season for the Yard Goats and eighth straight sellout at home. Eighteen of Hartford's last 20 home games have been sellouts.

Trenton (62-48), starting a reliever, Jordan Foley, and Yard Goats lefty Evan Grills engaged in a pitchers' duel, before the game was turned over to the bullpens.

The contest was scoreless, heading to the ninth inning, when Brandon Wagner opened the frame with a double off of EL saves leader Matt Pierpont, who escaped a bases loaded none-out jam in the eighth inning. Wagner moved to third on an error by Pierpont, attempting to pick him off. Kyle Holder then drew a one-out walk, but the Yard Goats infield botched a doubleplay ground ball hit by Wendell Rijo, that would have ended the inning, enabling Wagner to score. Rijo later scored on a dropped pop fly in shallow left center, that turned out to be a big play, as Mylz Jones hit a home run down the left field line for Hartford (51-58) in the bottom of the ninth inning. Following a two-out single by Drew Weeks, winning pitcher Matt Frawley struck out Dom Nunez to end the game.

Frawley, who picked up his first AA win for the Yankees' affiliate, pitched two innings and struck out four. Meanwhile, Grills turned in another solid start with six scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday night 6:05 p.m. RHP Frank Duncan will pitch for the Yard Goats against RHP Brian Keller for Trenton. The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio1410.iheart.com and MiLB.com.
