HARTFORD, CT - After eight scoreless innings, the Thunder managed to plate a pair of unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the opener of their series in Hartford, 2-1, on Friday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
Brandon Wagner started the ninth inning with a double to left-center and advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher Matt Pierpont. After a strikeout by Trey Amburgey and a walk from Kyle Holder, Wendell Rijo bounced into what appeared to be an inning ending double play. However, Hartford 2B Scott Burcham fumbled the transfer and recorded only one out, allowing Wagner to score. Later in the frame, Rashad Crawford reached on error by SS Ryan Metzler to allow a second run to cross and take a 2-0 lead.
Matt Frawley finished the game in the ninth, but surrendered a solo home run to Mylz Jones to account for Hartford's lone run.
Jordan Foley made a spot start for the Thunder and went 3.2 scoreless to start a bullpen day for the Thunder. It was Foley's first start since August 26, 2015 when he was a member of the Charleston River Dogs. Phillip Diehl followed him with 3.1 scoreless. The first eight innings for Thunder pitching held Hartford to just three baserunners total and struck out sevent.
Ryan Lidge and Crawford each had two-hit games to lead the Thunder offense. Kyle Holder saw his season-long 12-game hit streak come to an end on Friday night.
Your Thunder continue their road trip on Saturday night at 6:05pm against the Yard Goats. RHP Brian Keller (8-7, 3.62) will start for the Thunder, RHP Frank Duncan (1-2, 4.26) will go for Hartford. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:50pm on 920 AM The Jersey and online www.TrentonThunder.com/Broadcast.
