Tri-City Americans News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Americans netminder Tomas Suchanek has been named to the 2022-23 WHL U.S. Division Second All-Star Team.
Suchanek, from Prerov, Czechia, finished his second season with Tri-City by setting new career highs across the board in 2022-23.
The 2003-born goaltender posted a record of 27-14-1-2 over 46 games, winning 15 more games than 2021-22. He recorded a 3.05 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage, up from 3.87 and .901 in 2021-22. He finished fifth in shots faced (1,516) and fourth in saves (1,383) amongst all WHL goalies.
Suchanek firmly put himself on the map during the recent 2023 World Junior Championship (WJC), backstopping Czechia all the way to the gold medal game where they ultimately fell to Team Canada in overtime. The silver medal was the first medal for Czechia at the World Juniors since 2005. Suchanek went 5-2 and led the tournament with a 1.52 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. He was named to the WJC All-Star Team as well as one of Czechia's top-three players at the event.
After going unselected in the 2022 NHL Draft, Suchanek is currently ranked 8th amongst North Americans goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft.
