Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades announced Monday the signing of 2006-born forward William James to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development agreement.
James, who was not selected in the WHL Prospects Draft, was placed on the Blades 50 Man Protected List earlier this season.
"Willy is a competitor, first and foremost," began Blades Head of Scouting, Dan Tencer. "His desire to impact every shift is obvious and his compete habits allow him to be played in all situations of the game. He thinks the game extremely well, he plays fast, and he makes a consistent offensive impact with his skill level. He has shown a significant upward trajectory over the course of the last couple of years and we're very happy to have him as part of our future plans in Saskatoon."
The 5-foot-11 playmaker averaged over a point-per-game with the Calgary Buffaloes U18AAA club this season in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL). James tallied 38 points in 28 contests before potting six goals and seven points in seven postseason games.
In five outings at this year's Circle K Classic, the right-handed shot notched two goals and tacked on two penalty-minutes with it.
"Willy and his family entered this off-season with a number of attractive options for his development and we're pleased that he's chosen the WHL and the Saskatoon Blades and look forward to developing him as he works towards his hockey goals," said Tencer.
The Blades are excited to welcome the James family to the organization!
