Goaltender Matt Underhill signed to PTO contract

The St. John's Maple Leafs announced today that goaltender Matt Underhill has been signed to a Professional Try-Out (PTO) contract.

Underhill has appeared in 23 games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) and has a 13-7-3 record, a 2.54GAA and a.926 save percentage. Underhill has appeared in 12 AHL games over 2 seasons with the Providence Bruins, Manchester Monarchs and Norfolk Admirals. He made his NHL debut last year playing a game with the Chicago Blackhawks. The 25 year old native of Campbell River, BC was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames (6th choice, 170th overall) in 1999.

The Maple Leafs also announced today that goaltender Todd Ford was recalled from the Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL). Ford has appeared in 17 games with the Ice Pilots and has a 12-2-1 record, a 2.05GAA and a .936 save percentage. He recently appeared in the ECHL All-Star Game as a member of the American Conference team.

The St. John's Maple Leafs host the Hamilton Bulldogs this Friday and Saturday. Game times are 7:35pm and will be broadcast live on Radio NL (930AM) and www.sjmapleleafs.ca.
