Gladiators Win Streak Snapped at Five Games with 3-1 Loss to Greensboro

The Greensboro Generals snapped the Gwinnett Gladiators five-game winning streak on Saturday night with a 3-1 win at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Greensboro opened up a 1-0 lead early in the second period as Matt Elich beat Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett on a one-timer from the bottom of the right face off circle. Mike Bayrack picked up an assist on the goal as he slid to the puck to Elich at the 3:32 mark of the period.

Jim Jackson tied the contest up 1:59 into the third period as he slid a loose puck in the slot under Greensboro goaltender Daniel Berthiaume. Mike Vigilante and Kris Goodjohn added the assists on the power play goal.

Sam Ftorek scored the game winner 1:32 later as he pushed the puck under Garnett. Tom Reimann added an assist on the goal at the 3:33 mark of the third.

The Generals added an empty net goal with 1:01 left in the third period to put the game away as Mark Turner threw the puck down the length of the ice for the goal.

Michael Garnett made 21 saves in the loss and falls to 4-1-0 on the season. The Gladiators went 1-for-3 on the power play scoring their only goal on the man advantage. The Gladiators are back in action next Thursday at 7:05 p.m. when they visit August to take on the Lynx.
