
Blades Fall 6-5 in Shootout

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Florida Everblades (5-2-3) fell in a shootout 6-5 to the San Diego Gulls (3-1-1) at the San Diego Sports Arena on Friday night. The ECHL's leading scroer Florida forward Keith Anderson notched two goals in the Everblades shootout loss. The Blades remain tied for first place with Columbia in the ECHL's Southern Division despite the shootout loss.
The Gulls got on the board first and made it 1-0 when defenseman Samy Nasreddine's power play point shot found its way through Blades netminder Rob Zepp at the 12:57 mark. However, the Blades came right back and tied the game at 1-1 when forward Brian McCullough slipped a rebound into the back of the net off of a Jon Insana point shot at the 14:52 mark of the first period.
In the second period, the Gulls jumped out to a 2-1 lead on a goal off the stick of Sandro Sbrocco at the 2:01 mark of the period. San Duego then took a 3-1 lead after Miguel Deslisle notched his first goal of the season. The Blades came right back on the power play after forward Brent McDonald ripped a shot over the glove of Gulls netminder Trevor Koenig. The Gulls then took a 4-2 lead after forward Billy Tibbets notched his 4th goal of the year.
However, Florida came back and tied the game at 4-4 after Keith Anderson picked up his ECHL leading 10th goal of the season and Reggie Berg tipped in a rebound. The Gulls then grabbed a 5-4 lead when Samy Nasreddine registered his second goal of the game.
In the third period Keith Anderson tied the game for the Blades at 5-5 after a slapped in a rebound for his second goal of the game.
After a scoreless overtime, Billy Tibbetts scored the lone goal for the Gulls in the shootout to give them the 6-5 shootout win.
Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (1-1-0) stopped 38 of 43 shots he faced while San Diego netminder Trevor Koening (2-3-0) stopped 34 of 38 shots he faced.
The Everblades were 1 for 8 on the power play while the Gulls were 2 for 7.
