Titans Cannot Solve Irbe

Trenton Devils News Release

Trenton, NJ - Facing off against a former NHL All-Star goaltender proved as daunting of a task as expected for the Titans, as Irbe - named the starter just before game time - stopped every shot he faced in a 3-0 win for the Johnstown Chiefs. The Titans came into tonight's match-up playing their third game in three nights, having swept a home and home series against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Fatigue may have been a factor for the Titans, as mental mistakes and turnovers plagued them early in the game.

The Chiefs drew first blood at 9:56 on the power play after Dan Riva went to the penalty box for interference. Shawn Mather put a shot in on Andrew Allen and Dmitri Tarabrin was left all alone to put the rebound into a wide open net, making the score 1-0 for the Chiefs.

Just 18 seconds later the Chiefs would strike again on a Titans turnover in their own zone. Steve Hildenbrand was able to intercept a clearing attempt by Bill Cass and feed Dominic Forget in slot for a one-timer that snuck under the arm pad of Allen and trickled across the goal line.

Special teams would once again play a key factor as the Titans were held scoreless on eight power play opportunites while also giving up two goals on the penalty kill. Allen made 16 of 19 saves in the losing cause.

The Titans continue their homestand against the Reading Royals next Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00pm. The first 2000 fans will receive Titan posters courtesy of Mercer County Economic Development. For ticket information, call a Titans Sales Representative at 609.599.9500.
