Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have signed defenseman Ryan Van Buskirk and forward Peter Flache for the 2004-05 season.
Van Buskirk joins the Gladiators as he enters his fifth professional season after appearing in 27 games last year with the Florida Everblades. The defenseman recorded 2 goals and 13 assists for 15 points for the Everblades.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native was twice drafted. Van Buskirk was first selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in round 4, #100 overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and was again taken in the 4th round, #121 overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.
The 6-foot-2, 215 pound defenseman began his career in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons during the 1999-2000 season. In the previous four seasons combined, Van Buskirk has appeared in 62 AHL contests.
Flache comes to the Gladiators after splitting time during his rookie campaign last year between the Greenville Grrrowl and the Toledo Storm. Flache recorded 6 goals and 5 assists for 11 points with Greenville in 26 games before being traded to Toledo where he put up identical numbers in 34 games.
Peter, the brother of Paul Flache who is currently under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers, was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in round 9, #262 overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound defenseman recorded 21 goals and 37 assists for 58 points in four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Guelph Storm, North Bay Centennials and Saginaw Spirit.
