AHL training camps open for four Grrrowl players

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced that four players who have signed ECHL contracts for the 2004-05 season, will compete in AHL camps in three different cities over the next few days.

With two new NHL affiliates (Edmonton and Chicago), the Grrrowl organization was able to place players in their respective AHL training camps. The past relationship with the AHL Chicago Wolves also made a space available for another contracted defenseman. All four players will compete for spots at the AHL level, and will be with their respective clubs for 7-10 days. Head Coach John Marks will attend camp in Norfolk, while Ryan Stewart, Assistant GM, will be on hand at the Edmonton training camp.

NORFOLK ADMIRALS (Chicago Blackhawks) – opens 9/30 in Norfolk, VA

Krys Barch (6-2, 200lbs., forward)

Joey Martin (6-3, 225lbs., defense)

EDMONTON ROADRUNNERS (Edmonton Oilers) – opens 9/30 in Edmonton, Alberta

Carl Mallette (6-1, 195lbs., forward)

CHICAGO WOLVES – opens 9/27 in Chicago, IL

Corey Hessler (6-1, 205lbs., defense)

The Grrrowl anticipate seeing multiple contract players being assigned from the NHL/AHL organizations for the upcoming season, with the final number yet to be determined.

The following players who have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season:

FORWARDS – Krys Barch, Josh Oort, Kevin Bergin, Mike Nelson, Jason Norrie (VET), Carl Mallette, Colin Pepperall (VET), Mark Concannon, Russell Spence, Troy Illijow, Richard Pitirri (VET);

DEFENSE – Corey Hessler, Paul Esdale, Joey Martin, Jason Metcalfe, Daryl Pierce, Randy Dagenais.

The Grrrowl will open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004 against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information.
