
Gladiators fall to Ice Pilots 2-1 in a shootout

The Gwinnett Gladiators remained unbeaten in regulation in their last six games (4-0-2) with a 2-1 shootout loss on Wednesday night against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Pensacola Civic Cener.
The Gladiators and Ice Pilots skated to a scoreless tie through the first 20 minutes with Pensacola out shooting the Gladiators by an 11-10 mark.
Pascal Pelletier broke the scoreless tie with his 18th goal of the season. Picking up a rebound in the slot, Pelletier backhanded the puck past Pensacola netminder Todd Ford 3:53 into the second period to give the Gladiators the 1-0 lead. Derek Nesbitt took the initial shot to pick up an assist on the goal. Jeff Campbell also had a helper on the tally.
Pensacola tied the game up at 1-1 late in the third period. Brian Collins ripped a slap shot past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields from the right wing circle for the goal. Steven Later picked up an assist on the Pensacola tally at 16:19 of the third period.
Pushed to overtime and scoreless through the extra session, Pensacola picked up the win in a shoot out. Pete Gardner picked up the only goal in the shoot out in the fifth round.
Held off the scoresheet, Guillaume Desbiens' point scoring streak was snapped in the shootout loss at nine games tying the Gladiators season high for most consecutive games with a point.
Sean Fields made 34 saves in the contest for the Gladiators who fall to 12-5-4 on the season in the shootout loss.
