Everblades win fifh straight with 7-1 thumping of Lynx

AUGUSTA, GA - The Florida Everblades (14-6-0) used a hat-trick by Dustin Johner and 33 saves by Craig Kowalski to extend their winning streak to five games with a 7-1 win over the Augusta Lynx (10-12-2) on Wednesday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The seven goals was the most scored by the ‘Blades in one game this season.

Johner's first career hat-trick came in the first period, and Kowalski turned away 13 shots in the frame, helping Florida jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. Johner's first goal of the night came just 50 seconds into the game. He later tallied his second at 14:19, then closed out the scoring in the opening period with just 18 seconds remaining in the period. The only shot to get past Kowalski came when Dan Sullivan chipped in a shot at 7:33 which tied the game 1-1 at the time.

The Everblades extended their lead to four after two periods with goals by Chris Lee and Paul Cabana. Lee put Florida ahead 4-1 with his fifth goal of the season at 12:28 of the second period. The goal extended Lee's points scoring streak to six games and chased Augusta starting goaltender Mike Wall from the game. Cabana later gave the Everblades a 5-1 lead with his 11th goal of the year banging a shot past Lynx net-minder Jason Wolfe.

The Everblades closed out the scoring with a pair of third period power play goals. Vince Bellissimo notched his first as an Everblade at 4:02 and Dan Sisca finished off the scoring with his eighth goal of the year at 13:26.

With the win, Kowalski extended his personal winning streak to six, and improved his overall record to 8-4-0. Wall (2-3-0) suffered the loss for the Lynx after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Wolfe closed out the night stopping 11 of 14 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades converted on two of their six chances, while the Lynx finished the night 0-for-4.

The Everblades improved to 4-0-0 vs. Augusta with the victory.

The Everblades return to action on Friday, December 16 when they take on the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m. from Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, NC.
