Ford Stops Gladiators in 2-1 Shootout Win

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots won their second game in a row with a 2-1 shootout win vs. the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wednesday night at the Pensacola Civic Center.

The game was a battle of goaltenders in which Ice Pilots goalie Todd Ford out played Gwinnett goalie Sean Fields in the shootout. Ford stopped all five shots in the shootout and Pete Gardiner scored the only goal in round five of the shootout to give the Ice Pilots the 2-1 shootout win.

Pascal Pelletier would score the first goal of the game at the 3:53 mark of the second period to give the Gladiators a 1-0 lead. Brain Collins would tie the game at 1 for the Ice Pilots with 3:41 left in regulation blasting a shot from the right wing circle over the shoulder of Fields.

Ford stopped all three shots in the overtime including two big saves in the final 20 seconds to force the shootout. Ford was the winning goalie and was named the game's number one star. Fields picked up the shootout loss in goal for Gwinnett.

The Ice Pilots had 35 shots on goal, 17 penalty minutes and went 0-7 on the power play. Gwinnett had 39 shots on goal, 21 penalty minutes and went 0-5 on the power play.

The Ice Pilots improved their record to 10-11-3 for 23 points and Gwinnett's record stands at 12-5-4 for 28 points. The Ice Pilots are 6-2 in their last eight home games.

The Ice Pilots next game is at Florida on Wednesday, December 21 at 6:30 p.m. central time.
