CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers defeated the Columbia Inferno 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night in front of 3,486 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Mike Bayrack and Hugh Jessiman scored goals for the Checkers in the shootout as goalie Jeff Glass picked up the win stopping 4-of-the-5 Columbia shootout attempts.

The Checkers opened the scoring as Kevin Lavallee picked up his first goal in a Checkers uniform at the 9:07 mark of the first period. The teams combined for a five-goal second period tying the game at 3-3, and after a scoreless-third period, the teams skated to overtime.

The Checkers fired 43 shots at Columbia goalie Chris Houle (39 saves), who recorded a 1-0 shutout win last week in Charlotte. Checkers rookie goalie Jeff Glass stopped 31-of-34 shot attempts and picked up his third win of the season.

Rory Rawlyk and Ryan Fultz scored for the Checkers with Rawlyk earning the First Star of the game. Jessiman was named the Second Star and Columbia's Travis Lisabeth earned the Third Star. Lisabeth scored two goals and had an assist for the Inferno.

The Checkers (11-9-1) are back in action Friday as they host the Florida Everblades. Don't miss your chance to have your picture taken with the Stanley cup at the game on Friday. For more information, or tickets, call the Checkers Front Office at 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
