
Gladiators Douse Inferno, 7-3

Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Brad Schell picked up five points to lead the Gladiators to a 7-3 win over the Columbia Inferno on Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Schell had a goal and four assists tying a team season high for points in a game in the victory. With the win, Gwinnett remains in first place in the American Conference's South Division.
Gwinnett jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on John Awe's first professional goal 1:18 into the first period. Awe took a pass from Danny Eberly at the left wing point and ripping a snap shot through traffic and past Columbia netminder Jani Hurme. Brad Schell also had an assist on the goal.
Adam Smyth gave the Gladiators a 2-0 lead with his 4th goal of the season 12:26 into the first period. Smyth found a loose puck in the slot and backhanded it over Hurme's outstretched pad to the far post for the the goal. Troy Milam and Jeff Dwyer picked up the assists on the goal.
Gwinnett took a 3-0 lead on Derek Nesbitt's 15th goal of the season. Brad Schell posted his second assist of the game, feeding Nesbitt on a 2-on-1 break. Nesbitt came streaking down the left wing taking the pass from Schell and beat Hurme to the near post. Jeff Campbell also had an assist on the goal.
Columbia got within a goal of the Gladiators posting a pair of markers early in the second period. Leon Hayward was credited with the Inferno's first goal of the game as the puck ended up on top of the net, rolled down the back of Gladiators netminder Tuomas Tarkki and into the net for the tally 1:39 into the second.
Brandon Nolan cut the Gladiators lead to one goal dancing through the Gwinnett defense and beating Tarkki with a snap shot in the slot for the goal. Leon Hayward and Eric Nelson picked up the assists on the goal 5:23 into the second period.
Gwinnett got both goals back in the second period. Guillaume Desbiens found the puck on his stick in the slot on the power play and chunked it past Hurme to give the Gladiators a 4-2 lead. Troy Milam and Schell picked up the assists on the goal at 14:53 of the second period.
Troy Milam's 6th goal of the season gave the Gladiators a 5-3 lead before the end of the second period as he beat Hurme with a slap shot from the point. Schell added his fourth assist of the game on the power play goal feeding Milam at the point. Jeff Campbell also had a helper on the goal at 18:36 of the second period.
Nolan posted his second goal of the game on the power play at 13:58 of the third period to cut the Gladiators lead back to two goals at 5-3. Nolan beat Tarkki with a snapshot off a feed from Travis Lisabeth. Derek Campbell also had a helper on the tally.
Brad Schell picked up his fifth point of the game on a power play goal with 2:29 left in the third period. Milam fed Schell at the top of the right wing faceoff circle where Schell blasted a one timer past Hurme for the tally. Milan Gajic picked up an assist on the play as well.
Adam Smyth rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the game with 1:18 remaining in the third. Finding a rebound in the slot, Smyth jammed the puck past Hurme for his 5th marker of the year. Scott Kelman and Danny Eberly picked up the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.
Tuomas Tarkki finished with 20 saves in the win as the Gladiators improved to 26-9-5 on the season. Gwinnett finished with a team high 5 power play goals in the win.
