Dayton Bombers News Release
Wheeling, WV- The Bombers played their first road game of the second half of the season in Wheeling tonight against the Northern Division leading Nailers. Wheeling scored two goals in the first minute of the game to put to bombers in a tough spot right off the start. The Nailers would add one more, this time on the power play to make it 3-0 at the end of one.
Dayton Head Coach Don MacAdam knew this would be a tough test for his club especially in a smaller building in Wesbanco Arena, and early on the smaller ice proved to be an obstacle for the Bombers after the Nailers scored two goals 13 seconds apart in the first minute of the game, and added a power play goal later in the period to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room at the end of one.
This was a position the Bombers had been in before and there was still plenty of hockey left and the offense continued to be the story as it has over the last four games.
Later in the second at the 15:17 mark Jeff Szwez (16) would sneak one under the arm of Nailers goalie Andy Chiodo during a two-man advantage situation for the Bombers with the assists coming to Alex Johnstone and Tyson Teplitsky.
Sean Broderick practically stood on his head throughout the entire period making big save after big save to keep it at 3-1 at the end of two.
The Bombers would have a number of scoring chances on Chiodo in the third as well, but he was the difference in this one stopping 34 out of the 35 shots that he faced. Another power play goal by the Nailers late in the third helped put it away, final score 4-1.
