Gladiators announce 2006 schedule
October 25, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV, October 25, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators open their fourth Arena Football season in Las Vegas on the road when they travel to Austin to take on the Austin Wranglers on January 27, 2006 at 5:30 PM PT.
The Gladiators home schedule kicks off in Week 2 of the 2006 AFL season as Las Vegas hosts Western Division rival the San Jose SaberCats at the Thomas & Mack Center in a Monday night football contest on February 6, 2006. Kickoff for the 2006 home opener is 7:30 PM PT.
The Gladiators will face defending ArenaBowl Champion Colorado in week three on the road before coming home to take on the ArenaBowl runner-up Georgia in Week 4.
"We have to get out of the gates fast, playing two of our first four games against last season's ArenaBowl contenders in addition to a tough division game against San Jose," said Gladiators head coach Ron James. "We have to come our firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball. We are going to be a team that puts constant pressure on you both offensively and defensively, hoping to force other teams into mistakes."
The Arena Football League's 20th Season schedule was released by the League office today. The Gladiators will play eight home games and eight road contests during the 16-week regular season.
ArenaBowl XX is scheduled for June 11, 2005, at the Thomas & Mack Center
The Gladiators will host Western Division opponents Arizona, Los Angeles, San Jose and Utah at the Thomas & Mack Center while also entertaining Georgia, Grand Rapids, Nashville and Philadelphia.
The Gladiators 2006 road schedule features four in-division games at Arizona, Los Angeles, San Jose and in Salt Lake City against new Western Division opponent Utah, as well as trips to Austin, Colorado, Chicago and Dallas.
On February 24, Las Vegas will travel to Dallas to take on former Gladiators' Gunslinger Clint Dolezel and the Dallas Desperados.
Las Vegas Gladiators football can be heard exclusively on ESPN Radio 920 in Las Vegas. Andrew Siciliano and Mike Pritchard will return for their fourth season as the broadcast team for the Gladiators.
Sicilano, who hosts the Extravaganza on FOX Sports Radio, Monday - Friday from 6-9 AM PT, can also be seen as the host of AFL Weekly on FOX Sports Net. Pritchard, a former first-round draft NFL draft choice who played 10 years in the League, is one of ESPN Radio's primary football analysts and can be heard weekly with Hanson and Cokin every Monday during the NFL Season.
Gladiators will hold a two-day mini camp beginning on January 3 with the first day of full-squad training camp on Thursday, January 5. Both training camp and minicamp will be held at Sam Boyd Stadium.
