Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers and the Arena Football League announced the 2006 regular season schedule today. The Destroyers third season will kick off at Nationwide Arena at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, against the Grand Rapids Rampage. The 16-game schedule culminates on Saturday, May 13, on the road against the San Jose SaberCats with the ArenaBowl XX playoffs to begin the following week.

"Our fans, who have been outstanding the first two seasons, will thoroughly enjoy our schedule. Not only will they get to see some great games with some of the league's top teams coming to Nationwide Arena, but it's a very fan-friendly schedule," said Destroyers President David Paitson. "Just like last season six of our eight home games occur on Friday or Saturday night."

The 2006 Destroyers season also will have a special appearance by the Dale Earnhardt, Sr., #3 NASCAR at the season opener on Jan. 29. The car will be on display in front of Nationwide Arena prior to the game. The second home game of the Destroyers will have just as much as excitement when the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders return to Columbus to perform and sign autographs during the Feb. 11, game against the Dallas Desperados.

"This is just a taste of the fun and exciting promotions that the Destroyers will offer throughout the season when fans come to Nationwide Arena," Paitson added. "Our games will be packed with excitement from the time the fans walk in the door until the time they leave."

As members of the National Conference Eastern Division, the Destroyers will face each of their division rivals - Dallas, New York and Philadelphia - twice. Columbus opens up the divisional schedule on Saturday, Feb. 11, when the Dallas Desperados come to Nationwide Arena for a 7 p.m. tilt. Seven of the Destroyers 16 games come against 2005 playoff opponents.

The schedule will be a test for the 2006 Destroyers, but under the helm of new head coach Doug Kay and with the recent additions of three franchise players - AFL veterans, quarterback John Kaleo, offensive specialist Thabiti Davis and offensive/defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney - as well as a new mix of AFL veterans and top, young talent, the team has high expectations for the upcoming season.

The NBC and FSN schedule television broadcast schedule will be released at a later date. Don't miss a second of the hard-hitting, brawl inside the wall action of Arena Football every Sunday with the AFL on NBC.

Auditions for the Bombshells, the Destroyers' official dance team will begin 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Nationwide Arena. Columbus Destroyers season tickets for the 2006 season are now available by calling (614) 246-HITS or by visiting www.ColumbusDestroyers.com.
