Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Arena Football League and the Philadelphia Soul released the 2006 schedule today. The Soul will kick off the 2006 season at the Wachovia Center when they host the Tampa Bay Storm on Sunday, January 29, at 3:00p.m. This will begin the 20th season for the AFL.

The Soul will play a home-and-home series with each of their divisional opponents including the Dallas Desperados, New York Dragons and Columbus Destroyers. The Soul will host this year's version of the rock vs. jock game when they face John Elway's defending ArenaBowl Champion Colorado Crush. They will also host the Los Angeles Avengers with quarterback Tony Graziani facing his former team for the first time since being signed by Philadelphia before the 2005 season. The Soul will also play host to the Austin Wranglers and the Mike Ditka owned Chicago Rush.

The Soul open up the 2006 season at home the first four out of five weeks before venturing off on the road the following four games. Other none conference games for the Soul include road games against the Orlando Predators, Las Vegas Gladiators, Nashville Kats and Georgia Force.

"There is a lot of parody in the League this year and every game is going to be a battle," Soul head coach Bret Munsey said. "We have a tough stretch during the month of March when we have four consecutive road games, so we are going to have to start off on the right foot."

Two teams (Utah Blaze and Kansas City) have been added to the AFL for 2006, bringing the total number of teams to 18. The Soul will play eight home games and eight road contests during the 16-week season without a bye. The eight home games consist of five Sunday afternoon, two Friday nights and one Saturday night contest. This will be the first time in team history the Soul will be hosting a Friday night game.
